Health Minister urges contractors to speed up La General Hospital project

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has urged contractors working on the La General Hospital project to accelerate construction to meet the scheduled commissioning deadline of January 2028. Mr Akandoh said the hospital was expected to serve a large population, making timely completion critical to improving access to healthcare.

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has urged contractors working on the La General Hospital project to accelerate construction to meet the scheduled commissioning deadline of January 2028.

“We can speed up so that we can beat the deadline,” he said during an inspection of the project, acknowledging the progress made so far but stressing the need for faster work.

Mr Akandoh said the hospital was expected to serve a large population, making timely completion critical to improving access to healthcare.

He dismissed delays in government payments as an excuse for slow progress, insisting that contractors had been paid on time.

He added that the latest interim payment certificate had been submitted and forwarded to the Ministry of Finance for processing.

The Minister also called for a review of the proposed capacity of the hospital’s emergency department to ensure it could meet demand and help address challenges associated with the availability of emergency beds.

The €50 million project includes the provision and installation of medical equipment.

Mr Akandoh pledged that the government would continue to monitor construction until the facility was completed and operational.
