Centre approves 39 road projects worth ₹988 crore in Keralam

The projects will facilitate the development of 486 km of roads across the State, providing a significant boost to its road infrastructure development, says Public Works Minister P.K. Basheer.

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved 39 road development projects with an outlay of ₹988.75 crore in Keralam under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme.

According to Public Works Minister P.K. Basheer, the projects will facilitate the development of 486 km of roads across the State, providing a significant boost to its road infrastructure development.

The Public Works Minister had earlier held discussions with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari regarding road development in Keralam. The Union Ministry approved the projects after the State effectively presented its infrastructure development requirements, the Minister said. The initiative aims to upgrade and develop roads across various districts, covering major district roads, other district roads and roads within municipal corporation limits. Selected roads in every district will benefit from the initiative, Mr. Basheer said.

The State government has already accorded administrative sanction for the approved projects. Technical and financial clearances will be completed in a time-bound manner, with construction work scheduled to commence in December, the Minister said. He also added that the government would ensure quality and adherence to construction timelines. The works will be executed in accordance with standards comparable to those followed in national highway construction.

The projects are expected to strengthen the State’s road network, improve connectivity in rural areas, and enhance transport links between different regions, Mr. Basheer said.
