The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), Yobe State Council, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Yobe State Government, demanding urgent action on three critical welfare and conditions of service affecting the non-academic staff in state-owned tertiary Institutions.

The State Chairman, Comrade Ali Usman, in a statement issued, revealed the ultimatum, which takes effect from Thursday, 29th October, 2026, following the Union’s meeting held at its secretariat in Damaturu, where members expressed deep concern over the continued delay in addressing their outstanding demands.

“The Union’s demands include: Implementation of the 65-Year Retirement Age, Implementation of the Reviewed 2024 Salary Scale (CONTEDISS), Approval and implementation of the Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance (CONTTA) and the applicable Earned Allowance (EA) for Non-Academic Staff”

“NASU notes with concern that while the Yobe State Government has approved the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) for academic staff, the corresponding requests for Non-Academic Staff remain outstanding, despite having been jointly submitted under the Joint Academic and Non-Academic Staff Union (JANASU), the statement reads in part.

The Association acknowledges the importance of supporting academic staff but emphasised that non-academic personnel also play indispensable roles in the administration, technical operations, management and day-to-day running of Tertiary Institutions, and their welfare deserves fair and equitable consideration in the interest of institutional effectiveness and harmonious industrial relations.

“The continued delay in resolving these issues has generated dissatisfaction among members and risks undermining staff morale and industrial harmony within the affected institutions.

“NASU therefore calls on the State Government to demonstrate its commitment to workers’ welfare by taking concrete steps towards resolving the outstanding demands within the stipulated period.

“The Union has stated that if the issues remain unresolved by 11th November, 2026, it will reconvene on 12th November 2026 to review the situation and determine its next course of action in accordance with applicable labour laws and established procedures.”

The Association stressed that its objective is not confrontation but a fair, timely, and sustainable resolution of the outstanding issues and that it remains open to constructive engagement with the Yobe State Government to avoid industrial tension and possible disruption of academic activities.
