The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) is looking forward to collaborating with NITI Aayog in the areas of health policy formulation and health economics, said Vice-Chancellor Bhagavan B.C.

He stressed that health economics plays a crucial role in shaping a sustainable healthcare system by addressing healthcare costs, resource allocation, affordability, accessibility and the economic impact of health interventions. Through this collaboration, RGUHS aims to bring its academic expertise, research capabilities and healthcare insights to support evidence-based policymaking and contribute to strengthening India’s healthcare system.

RGUHS will lay special emphasis on developing and introducing specialised training programmes for caregivers to strengthen the quality of patient care, Dr. Bhagavan said.

R. Balasubramaniam, member, NITI Aayog, New Delhi, highlighted elder care as one of the major challenges facing India due to its growing ageing population. He observed that India is not yet adequately prepared to meet the healthcare and care giving needs of senior citizens. There is a significant gap between the needs of the elderly, existing healthcare services and the availability of trained caregivers.
