The District Government Lady Goschen Hospital has secured the first place in the State for maintaining 100% maternal health and bringing maternal mortality to zero in legal abortion and post-abortion care performed during 2025-26.

A survey conducted by the Health and Family Welfare Department in collaboration with Ipas Development Foundation among district hospitals in the State has recognised the Lady Goschen to this distinction, said a release. The hospital could reduce maternal and infant mortality rates to a minimum by adopting many innovative programs and methods.

The release said Lady Goschen has handled 304 legal abortions during the year under the survey, and each case has followed all the rules under the quality comprehensive abortion care program, recording a zero mortality rate.

It conducted 191 abortions before nine weeks of pregnancy, 31 between 10-12 weeks, 52 between 12-20 weeks, 20 between 20-24 weeks and five abortions post-24 weeks.

Hospital Medical Superintendent M. R. Durgaprasad congratulated the experts of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Anesthesia Department, Radiodiagnosis Department, and Neonatal Department of KMC Hospital for their cooperation in achieving the feat.

He also said the service of the nursing staff, paramedical staff, and technical staff of the hospital was unique. Dr. Durgaprasad said the newly implemented WhatsApp High Risk Pregnancy Tracking System, Maternity Intensive Care Unit, Maternity Critical Care Unit, and High Risk Pregnancy Delivery Unit have played a major role in reducing the maternal mortality rate to zero.

The Medical Superintendent said the state-of-the-art life-saving equipment, which has been procured through corporate social responsibility grants from various organisations, has been helpful in providing quality service facilities. He appreciated the cooperation of the Health Minister, people’s representatives, senior officers of the district administration, departmental officers and social organisations in hospital’s functioning.
