Commercial tax collections in Andhra Pradesh rise by 20% in October

It is attributed to higher GST and petroleum VAT revenues, improved tax compliance, and intensified enforcement

Andhra Pradesh’s commercial tax collections grew 20% in October, with higher GST and petroleum VAT revenues contributing to the increase, Chief Commissioner of State Tax A. Babu said on Sunday.

Gross GST collections grew 24% outpacing the national growth rate of 16%, while the State GST (SGST) collections increased 21%. Petroleum VAT revenue also registered a 23% rise.

Net GST collections, including the State’s share of IGST settlements, went up 19% compared with October the previous year. This was the highest October collection since the introduction of GST, he said.

Cumulative commercial tax collections during April-October increased 18% over the corresponding period the previous year.

Mr. Babu attributed the growth to improved tax compliance, intensified enforcement and the use of AI and Data Analytics to detect tax discrepancies, scrutinise returns and prevent ineligible input tax credit claims.

Iron and steel, construction services, plastics and automobiles were among the major contributors to the GST growth during October, he added.
