Collector directs officials to expedite Warangal super-speciality hospital works

The hospital project has missed several deadlines, including the proposed launch of outpatient services on October 20

District Collector Chahat Bajpai inspected the works at the Warangal super-speciality hospital on Sunday.

With the Warangal Multi-Super-Speciality Hospital missing several deadlines for completion, District Collector Chahat Bajpai on Sunday stepped up the pressure on officials and the construction agency to expedite the pending works.

The Collector inspected the ongoing works outside the hospital building and reviewed their progress with officials of the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) and the construction agency. She sought details of the various components of the project, the works completed so far and those yet to be taken up. She directed officials to expedite the pending works and monitor their progress regularly to ensure timely completion.

The inspection comes amid the State government’s efforts to operationalise the 24-storey hospital, being built at an estimated cost of ₹1,371 crore. The facility is expected to strengthen tertiary healthcare services in north Telangana and reduce the burden on the existing Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital in Warangal.

On September 21, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had expressed displeasure over the delay despite funds being released through the green channel mechanism. He directed officials to ensure round-the-clock construction, prepare a time-bound action plan and assign specific responsibilities to officers to monitor different components of the project.

Subsequently, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced that outpatient services would begin on October 20, ahead of the proposed formal inauguration after December 15. However, the proposed launch was postponed, with the authorities deciding to conduct a trial run after completing the necessary preparations.

Once operational, the hospital is expected to cater to patients from the erstwhile Warangal district and other parts of north Telangana, besides neighbouring areas of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.

R&B Superintending Engineer Suresh Babu, GWMC Superintending Engineer Raj Kumar, R&B Executive Engineer Devika Chauhan and representatives of the construction agency accompanied the Collector during the inspection.
