GPCL introduces security features on gazettes to curb fake publications

The Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) has introduced enhanced security features on its gazettes and intensified public education to combat the circulation of fake publications and eliminate revenue leakages. Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House on Monday, November 2, Mr Boatey also disclosed that GPCL had engaged Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) to directly collect and bank all sales proceeds at its business centre.

The Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) has introduced enhanced security features on its gazettes and intensified public education to combat the circulation of fake publications and eliminate revenue leakages.

Managing Director Nana Kwasi Boatey said management identified the procurement of fake gazettes through intermediaries, commonly referred to as 'Goro Boys', as one of the major factors contributing to the company's financial difficulties.

He explained that some members of the public had been obtaining gazette publications through unauthorised middlemen, resulting in revenue losses for the company.

To address the problem, management introduced additional security features on newly issued gazettes and launched a nationwide public education campaign dubbed Gazette360 to educate applicants on the proper channels for accessing the service.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House on Monday, November 2, Mr Boatey also disclosed that GPCL had engaged Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) to directly collect and bank all sales proceeds at its business centre.

This arrangement, he said, was intended to ensure that all revenue generated was paid directly into the company's bank accounts, while expenditure was also channelled through the banking system to strengthen financial oversight.

"To solve the problem of revenue and expenditure leakages, management engaged CBG to directly collect and bank all sales at our business centre," he said.

He maintained that the measures were helping to improve revenue mobilisation, strengthen transparency and protect the company's financial resources.
