In a statement, he said Venkatesan, a resident of Nakkampadi village in Sendurai block, was attacked by the youth at Aathankurichi near Thalavay on October 29. He was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Thanjavur and died on November 1.

Pointing out Venkatesan had lost his wife and was raising his two children on a meagre salary, Mr. Thirumavalavan said the children had now lost both their parents. He urged the government to enhance the compensation, keeping their future in mind.
