CPI(M) leader and lawmaker M.Y. Tarigami on Monday said that despite court rulings, many people continue to face difficulties in getting Criminal Investigation Department (CID) clearance in Kashmir.

“The High Court has, in several cases, ruled that a person cannot be denied security clearance simply because of the alleged involvement of their relatives in militancy-related activities. However, despite these court rulings, many people continue to face difficulties in getting CID clearance because of the alleged involvement of even distant relatives in such activities,” said Mr. Tarigami.

He said that in some cases, those accused died many years ago, but their past continues to affect their families, denying the younger generations opportunities through no fault of their own.

“The verification process needs to be reviewed to ensure that individuals are assessed on the basis of their own conduct, not the alleged actions of their relatives. Security concerns are important, but they should not come at the cost of the rights and future of innocent people,” he added.
