TV tonight: Aidan Gillen stars in a twisty Irish crime caper

Aidan Gillen stars in a twisty Irish crime caper. This breezy Irish crime caper is directed by Chris Addison and stars the excellent Ella Lily Hyland as Bridget, a kindly nurse with a secret drug habit, a taste for folk horror stories and a willingness to dispatch suffering patients.

A nurse with a drug habit is tempted by a gangster’s money in Tall Tales and Murder. Plus: an inside look at Burnham’s first 100 days. Here’s what to watch this evening

10.40pm, BBC One This breezy Irish crime caper is directed by Chris Addison and stars the excellent Ella Lily Hyland as Bridget, a kindly nurse with a secret drug habit, a taste for folk horror stories and a willingness to dispatch suffering patients. When patient Grinner (Aidan Gillen) wakes from a coma and reveals himself to be a gangster with a hoard of buried treasure, Bridget spies an opportunity. Twisty fun with an edge of danger. Phil Harrison

7.15pm, ITV1 Journalist Daniel Hewitt has had a ringside seat for this year’s most remarkable political renaissance. In this report, he follows Andy Burnham through his first 100 days as prime minister, capturing him as he prepares for his first PMQs and ponders his first budget. An interesting view from the inside. PH

8pm, BBC One The swankiest iteration of MasterChef arrives for its traditional pre-Christmas run. And straight away, there’s a surprise – the feared skills test has had a major remix. Still, Monica Galetti and Marcus Wareing are looming over the terrified chefs as they dismantle crabs, so some things haven’t changed. PH

The fourth season of this brilliant Belfast crime drama comes to an end and heart-in-mouth moments abound. But there’s melancholy, too, as the Blackthorn peelers realise that life will never be the same again. With Gerry’s evidence now out in the open, there will be casualties. And will Morgan’s cocaine empire crumble, too? PH

10pm, BBC Four Syrian film-makers Hasan Kattan and Fadi Al-Halabi’s friendship was forged while documenting civil war. But in 2023, holed up in a UK hotel housing asylum seekers, they turned the camera on themselves, capturing a different, internal battle. This is a raw, intensely personal film about how storytelling can preserve identity and hope. Ali Catterall

11.30pm, BBC One The world holds its breath. Advance polling suggests the Republicans are set for a crushing defeat in these congressional and senatorial midterm elections, which are widely viewed as a referendum on the second Trump presidency. But could he stage a remarkable comeback? Clive Myrie, Sumi Somaskanda and Caitríona Perry are your guides. PH

The Nature of Love (Monia Chokri, 2023), 11.35pm, Film4

Opposites may attract but, Chokri’s romantic drama asks, can love overcome the differences in the long term? Canadian philosophy lecturer Sophia (Magalie Lépine Blondeau) falls in lust at first sight with lumberjack-shirted builder Sylvain (Pierre-Yves Cardinal), to the extent of breaking up her marriage. As she socialises with his working-class family and he attends a dinner party with her intellectual friends, there’s plenty of fish-out-of-water comedy to be had, but Chokri is careful not to condescend or satirise either side of the social divide. Simon Wardell

Champions League football, Barcelona v Aston Villa, 7pm, TNT Sports 1 Man United v Roma is at 6.30pm on Prime Video.

Rwanda launches Africa’s first trial of long-acting malaria prevention injection

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 6-Rwanda has launched Africa’s first clinical trial of a long-acting injectable drug for malaria prevention, marking a potential shift in how the disease is prevented as drug resistance and climate change threaten progress against the mosquito-borne illness. The Phase 1b trial, launched by Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) in partnership with Rwandan health research organisation Rinda Ubuzima, will assess the safety and tolerability of MMV371, an experimental drug designed to provide extended protection against malaria through a single injection.
