It’s astonishing that the BJP, which has failed to provide satisfactory answers to serious questions concerning electoral transparency, is now launching a campaign in the name of saving democracy, Congress’s Haryana in-charge Sanjay Dutt says

Ahead of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Haryana to lead the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ‘Save democracy, remove anarchy’ march, the Haryana Congress on Wednesday (November 4, 2026) put out a series of pointed questions to the ruling party on issues related to democracy, electoral fairness, the independence of constitutional institutions, and the steadily deteriorating state of governance in the State.

“It was astonishing that the BJP, which had failed to provide satisfactory answers to serious questions concerning electoral transparency, was now launching a campaign in the name of saving democracy,” the Congress’s Haryana in-charge Sanjay Dutt said.

“Democracy is not safeguarded merely through slogans, processions and political events. It is protected through transparency, accountability, institutional independence and respect for the people’s mandate. Amit Shah must answer the questions raised by Rahul Gandhi on alleged ‘vote chori’ [theft] in Haryana in the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections,” a joint statement by Haryana Congress president Rao Narender Singh and Mr. Dutt said.

“Why has the BJP leadership to date failed to provide any concrete and satisfactory response to the specific allegations raised by Mr. Gandhi? Why has no fair, independent and transparent investigation been conducted into the alleged electoral irregularities?” Mr. Dutt added.

“Mr. Shah should also provide answers on who is accountable for the deteriorating law and order situation in Haryana. When the BJP talks about eliminating anarchy, the people of Haryana have every right to ask what concrete steps the State government has taken to ensure their safety. Crimes against women, crimes against children, murders, kidnappings, extortion, gang wars and the growing sense of insecurity among ordinary citizens are matters of serious concern and demand immediate attention,” Mr. Dutt said.

“On November 5, when Mr. Shah leads the BJP’s march in Karnal and addresses a public rally in Ambala, the people of Haryana will expect answers to these important questions,” the Congress leader said.
