Ghanaian actor Adjetey Anang has finally revealed the name of the “pretty” lady who first broke his heart.

The actor, popularly known for his remarkable roles in Ghanaian films and television productions, made the revelation during an interview with Nikki Samonas on Joy Prime’s Changes show, while reflecting on his early romantic and friendship experiences in secondary school.

Recounting the experience, Adjetey Anang opened up about the lady whose beauty and decent, outspoken character captured his attention but who eventually left him heartbroken.

“Theodora Lartey, I’ll never forget this girl Beeca. This was in secondary school. I mean pretty girl well nurtured from a good and she was pretty. We hit on in school; she was in blue skirt while I was a senior and so we struck and just liked each other. Everything was working nicely as we use to write letters to each other,” he recounted.

Unfortunately, their budding romance came to an abrupt end when Theodora travelled abroad without informing him, leaving him heartbroken and uncertain about when she would return.

“I visited her during one of our long vacations because those were the times we got to see each other. But I got to her house, asked her sister and she told me she was surprised I didn’t any information because Beeca had travelled. This was the age where we didn’t have phones and social media didn’t exist. So there was no way to contact her. She tried to polish it and said that everything happened so fast and she (Beeca) had to travel out of town with her uncle to South Africa. I asked when she was coming back and the sister said they may continue to UK from there. I stood there and everything was like a dream,” he added.

According to the actor, Theodora was his first serious girlfriend, and he never expected her to treat him that way, especially as he believed he had done nothing wrong to warrant such an action.

He added that he had envisioned a future with her as his wife during their relationship and was convinced they would eventually get married.

“…this was the one that I personally chose and I could see the future with the two of us. Long there, I could see our children even in the future. Yeah, it was serious and then why did she treat me this way? That day, I walked from Labone to the stadium and it was a long stretch.”

Although he was deeply hurt by the experience, the actor said he could not bring himself to cry despite the intensity of his emotions, adding that he was hurting silently within.

He further revealed that when social media became popular and he had the opportunity to reconnect with people, Theodora was the first person he searched for. He wanted to confront her and find out what he had done to deserve the heartbreak and the manner in which she had left him.

“Years down the line when social media came with Facebook first, the name I wanted to search was Beeka to find out where she was and fortunately, I found her and asked what I did wrong; then she wrote me a long message trying to explain. For me, I knew that it wasn’t something that I had done because we couldn’t also communicate and I think I lost my address so that was it.”

For Adjetey Anang, that remains his most significant heartbreak, as he does not consider his other relationships before marriage particularly serious. He noted that the experience has remained vivid in his memory since 1991.

The actor also documented the experience in his memoir, Adjetey Anang: A Story of Faith, Imperfection and Resilience, in which he reflects on his childhood, personal experiences and journey in the movie industry, including key milestones in his marriage and career.
