Police seize properties worth ₹7 lakh in drug trafficking case

Properties worth ₹7.04 lakh, including a Tata Ace goods carrier, an autorickshaw and two motorcycles, have been seized by Maheshwaram police in connection with a marijuana trafficking case. The action was taken under Section 68F of the NDPS Act following a financial investigation into the proceeds of drug trafficking.

The case involves Md. Moulana and Md. Mustafa, who were earlier arrested after police seized 62.428 kg of the contraband, a Tata Ace goods carrier, ₹10,000 in cash and three mobile phones.

As part of the investigation, police examined financial transactions, vehicle registration certificates and other ownership documents to trace assets allegedly acquired using proceeds from drug trafficking.

The investigation identified two bank accounts and four movable properties linked to the accused. An amount of ₹4,022 in a bank account belonging to Mr. Moulana was frozen, while the four vehicles, comprising a Tata Ace goods carrier, an autorickshaw and two motorcycles, were valued at approximately ₹7 lakh.

The total value of the identified assets, including the bank balance, stood at ₹7,04,022. Following confirmation by the competent authority in Chennai, action was taken against the properties on November 4 under Section 68F of the NDPS Act.

The financial investigation was carried out by Maheshwaram police in coordination with the legal wing of the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE), Telangana. The agency said it was expanding its investigations beyond drug seizures to trace the financial transactions, assets and wider networks associated with narcotics trafficking.

EAGLE has urged the public to share information about the procurement, transportation, storage and sale of narcotic substances through its toll-free number 1908 or WhatsApp number 87126 71111.
