CESC staff join efforts to restore power supply in cyclone-hit A.P.

CESC linemen and engineers at work in cyclone-hit Andhra Pradesh to restore power supply.

In a gesture of inter-State solidarity, the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) has deployed its engineers and field staff to Andhra Pradesh to help restore the power supply disrupted by Cyclone Murusu.

The deployment was made following directions from the Chief Minister and the Energy Minister, with Karnataka’s electricity supply corporations extending assistance to the cyclone-hit State.

The cyclone has damaged around 2,000 electricity poles in Andhra Pradesh. Power supply has also been completely disrupted at three or four 33-kV substations, leaving several areas without electricity, according to CESC.

The CESC has deployed one Executive Engineer, two Assistant Executive Engineers, one Assistant Engineer, three Junior Engineers and 80 linemen for the restoration work. Four trucks, four digger machines and other technical equipment and materials have also been sent.

The team would assist in clearing damaged electricity poles, erecting new poles, repairing power lines and restoring connectivity to substations. It would coordinate with the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Department to expedite the restoration of power supply.

CESC Managing Director M.S. Archana said the corporation had deputed its officers and staff following instructions from the Chief Minister and the Energy Minister. “Extending assistance to people of another State during a crisis is our duty. We will provide all necessary support for the restoration work,” she said.
