GES extends Obuasi SHTS sexual misconduct probe by 7 days
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has granted its committee investigating allegations of sexual misconduct involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, a seven-day extension to complete its investigations. Mr Fenyi stressed that investigations were still ongoing and dismissed suggestions that the Service had cleared Mr Abdulai or any other individual implicated in the allegations.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has granted its committee investigating allegations of sexual misconduct involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, a seven-day extension to complete its investigations.
GES Public Relations Officer, Daniel Fenyi, said the committee had already engaged several people connected to the incident, including some of the alleged victims, but required additional time to ensure their experiences were adequately captured in its report.
Speaking on Joy FM's Midday News, Mr Fenyi explained that the committee was initially given two weeks to complete its work, with the deadline expiring on Wednesday.
However, the committee subsequently requested an additional seven days to enable it to engage all the victims identified in the video at the centre of the controversy.
He said the investigators were keen to ensure that the final report reflected the actual experiences of the alleged victims rather than being completed without their full representation.
The GES PRO expressed the expectation that the committee would reach all the victims by November 11 and submit its report to the GES Council.
Mr Fenyi stressed that investigations were still ongoing and dismissed suggestions that the Service had cleared Mr Abdulai or any other individual implicated in the allegations.
He emphasised that the GES had not concluded its investigations and that no final determination had been made as of Friday, November 6.
