FG’s ₦50,000: Step-by-step guide on how MTN users can access funds

MTN subscribers selected for the Federal Government’s ₦50,000 monthly relief programme can check their eligibility and access the financial support through the MoMo Payment Service Bank (PSB) USSD code. For eligible MTN subscribers assigned to MoMo PSB, the designated USSD code is *671*0#.

MTN subscribers selected for the Federal Government’s ₦50,000 monthly relief programme can check their eligibility and access the financial support through the MoMo Payment Service Bank (PSB) USSD code. The National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) is designed to provide financial assistance to vulnerable Nigerian households to help them meet essential needs amid rising living costs.

According to the official NERSI portal, beneficiaries are selected using verified national identity records and the National Social Register. Selected beneficiaries are contacted through approved payment providers, including MoMo PSB, ALAT by Wema Bank, NairaGram, OPay and Moniepoint. For eligible MTN subscribers assigned to MoMo PSB, the designated USSD code is *671*0#.

How MTN subscribers can check eligibility and access the ₦50,000 support 1. Dial the USSD code: MTN subscribers can dial 6710# using their registered phone numbers and follow the prompts to check their eligibility or payment status. 2. Accept the offer: Subscribers who receive an official notification confirming their selection should follow the instructions provided to give consent and accept the support. 3.

Respond to MoMo notifications: Beneficiaries who receive a genuine MoMo notification requesting consent should follow the prompts and select the appropriate option to authorise the payment. 4. Open a MoMo account: Selected beneficiaries without an existing MoMo wallet can dial *671# or download the official MoMo NG app to register. 5. Access the funds: Once the ₦50,000 is credited, beneficiaries can withdraw or transfer the money through the MoMo application, USSD service or an authorised MoMo agent.

They can also transfer the funds to their bank accounts. The Federal Government has explained that beneficiaries will receive SMS notifications from their assigned payment providers requesting consent before the money is transferred to their mobile wallets. In an October 30 statement announcing the commencement of the intervention, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, said eligible beneficiaries would receive ₦50,000 monthly to support their essential needs.

“Beneficiaries will receive an SMS from one of these providers asking for their consent. This message is genuine. Once consent is given, payment is made directly to the beneficiary’s account/mobile wallet,” Doro stated. The minister also clarified that beneficiaries do not need to apply, pay any fee or register through an agent to receive the support.

The ministry has warned Nigerians against sharing their personal identification numbers (PINs) and Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs) with unauthorised individuals. Meanwhile, the NERSI portal states that the intervention is free and that selected beneficiaries are being contacted in batches. Subscribers whose eligibility status shows “NOT SELECTED” should note that the government has not guaranteed that everyone excluded from the current batch will receive the support in subsequent phases.
