National Lok Adalat in Yadgir district on December 12

The year’s final National Lok Adalat will be conducted across all courts in the district on December 12, with 840 pending cases identified for amicable settlement so far, Principal District and Sessions judge H.J. Marulasiddaradhya said.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the judge stated that out of 20,080 cases currently pending trial across the district and taluk courts, 840 have been identified for amicable settlements, with the number expected to rise further ahead of the event.

The Lok Adalat will entertain compoundable criminal cases, bank recovery suits, employment reinstatement matters, Debt Recovery Tribunal disputes, cheque bounce cases, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal suits, matrimonial and family disputes (excluding divorce), and compoundable civil cases. Notices have already been issued to litigants and their counsels representing before the court, urging them to utilise the platform.

The judge highlighted that court fees paid for cases settled through Lok Adalat would be refunded in full. He also urged the public to bring pre-litigation disputes to the Lok Adalat to resolve grievances swiftly at minimal expenses.

Providing updates on judicial infrastructure in the newly formed taluks, the judge announced that the High Court of Karnataka has approved the establishment of a court in Gurmitkal.

Pending permanent infrastructure, a circuit court will function out of the Gurmitkal Town Hall every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, presided over by Civil and JMFC judges from Yadgir. A formal proposal for a court in Hunasagi has been submitted, with clearance expected by the end of the month.

A Special Lok Adalat dedicated exclusively to cheque bounce cases will be held on November 21. Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar, who was present at the briefing, was asked to ensure the prompt service of summons and warrants for these cases.

Updating on traffic enforcement, Mr. Shankar stated that between October 2025 and October 2026, the police generated 28,120 traffic e-challans. However, penalties have been collected for only 2,232 challans (8%), leaving 25,888 pending. Non-wearing of helmets and seatbelts accounted for 19,000 violations, while triple-riding accounted for 4,100. Out of total pending fines amounting to ₹1.63 crore, only ₹12 lakh has been recovered.

Mr. Shankar announced a 50% rebate on traffic fine payments for challans issued between 1991 and 2025. Violators can clear their dues between November 21 and December 11, 2026, either online or at Yadgir Town, Rural, or Traffic police stations. He added that an AI-based Intelligent Traffic Management System introduced in June is now generating 4,000 to 5,000 automated challans monthly against the rules violators.

Regional Transport Officer Milind Kumar stated that the Transport Department registered 2,220 cases for motor vehicle violations between 2000 and 2025, imposing a total fine of ₹69.36 lakh. This includes 801 cases in 2024-25 with ₹5.90 lakh in fines. The department is also offering a 50% fine concession during the November 21-December 11 period.
