Gov’t acquires extra motorcycles for Ayalolo’s contra-flow dispatch operations ahead of Christmas

The government has acquired additional Honda motorcycles to strengthen Ayalolo’s contra-flow operations in the Greater Accra Region ahead of the Christmas festivities. The motorcycles have been handed over to the Central Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), which has assigned riders to support the Ayalolo team and improve the efficiency of its dispatch operations.

The government has acquired additional Honda motorcycles to strengthen Ayalolo's contra-flow operations in the Greater Accra Region ahead of the Christmas festivities.

The motorcycles have been handed over to the Central Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), which has assigned riders to support the Ayalolo team and improve the efficiency of its dispatch operations.

Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, said the acquisition was intended to increase the number of dispatch riders available to support the transport operator and improve traffic management.

“In the meantime, we have acquired some Honda dispatch bikes to support the Ayalolo company to be able to manage the flow more efficiently and effectively,” he said.

Mr Ayariga explained that the motorcycles had been procured specifically to increase the fleet of dispatch riders available to the Ayalolo team.

“So, we've procured additional ones and we want to hand over to the MTTD department who have assigned riders. And then we increase the fleet of dispatch riders that will be available for the Ayalolo team,” he added.

The intervention follows operational challenges associated with the limited number of dispatch riders, including a disruption on the Amasaman stretch attributed to the late arrival of a dispatch rider.

The Commanding Officer of the Central MTTD in Accra, DCOP Prince Cobbinah, assured the Minister of the department's commitment to supporting the initiative.

“I assure you that we will be dedicated to the course of the government to ensure that at least pedestrians' and travellers' travel time is reduced to the barest minimum,” he said.

The additional motorcycles are expected to improve coordination between the MTTD and Ayalolo, minimise operational delays and ensure smoother movement of buses, particularly during the busy Christmas period.
