The Kwara State gubernatorial campaign train of the New Nigeria Peoples Party-NNPP led by its governorship candidate, Prince Adetoyese Omokanye, has moved to Tsaragi and Lafiagi in Edu Local Government Area, where the campaign received warm reception from traditional rulers, religious leaders, party members, community stakeholders, youths and women.

The campaign visit, which attracted a broad spectrum of community representatives and political stakeholders, provided an opportunity for the NNPP governorship candidate to present his vision for rural development, economic empowerment and improved social infrastructure, while engaging residents on the challenges confronting their communities. Prince Omokanye was accompanied on the campaign tour by the National Chairman of the NNPP, Dr.

Agbo Major; the Kwara State Chairman, Alhaji Lamidi Shoku; and several other high-ranking party officials, underscoring the party’s commitment to strengthening its grassroots presence and consolidating support across the state. Addressing the people during the engagements, Prince Omokanye reiterated his determination to prioritise rural development and ensure that communities outside major urban centres are not neglected in the distribution of government resources and development opportunities.

He emphasised that sustainable development must extend beyond Ilorin the state capital and other major towns to reach rural communities, where a significant proportion of the population depends on agriculture and other local economic activities for survival. According to him, his administration, if elected, would pursue policies that directly connect rural dwellers to economic opportunities capable of improving their standard of living, creating sustainable livelihoods and stimulating economic growth at the grassroots.

A major highlight of his development agenda was his commitment to repositioning agriculture through strategic investment in mechanised farming. The NNPP governorship candidate maintained that agriculture remains one of the strongest economic assets of rural communities in Kwara State and must be supported with the right infrastructure, technology and constant government intervention to unlock its full potential.

Omokanye particularly praised the people of Edu Local Government for their industrious nature and significant contributions to food production, describing the area as an important agricultural hub with enormous economic potential. He stressed that the people who work tirelessly to feed the state and contribute to food security deserve deliberate government attention, particularly through access to modern farming equipment, irrigation support system, provision of seedlings, fertilizer and other necessities that would make farming more productive and profitable.

He further maintained that public resources must be channelled towards projects and programmes that have direct and measurable benefits for the people, assuring residents of his commitment to ensuring that Kwara’s resources are invested in ways that promote inclusive development and economic prosperity for all of its people. The NNPP candidate also expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of critical infrastructure in parts of Edu Local Government, particularly the deplorable state of roads, inadequate electricity supply, lack of safe drinkable water and challenges facing healthcare delivery.

He observed that poor road infrastructure continues to undermine economic activities, restrict movement and make the transportation of agricultural produce to markets increasingly difficult. He also noted that unreliable electricity supply, lack of safe drinking water and inadequate healthcare facilities constitute major obstacles to the well-being and economic advancement of rural residents.

Omokanye maintained that these challenges require urgent and practical interventions, stressing that rural communities must have access to essential public infrastructure and social services if they are to experience meaningful development and live a healthy life. The campaign visits accorded the NNPP delegation an opportunity to strengthen its relationship with traditional institutions, religious organisations, community leaders and grassroots political structures.

The presence of women and youths at the campaign engagements also highlighted the importance of these groups in the political and economic development of the state. Omokanye’s emphasis on creating opportunities for rural communities reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that development initiatives translate into improved livelihoods for ordinary citizens.

For the NNPP, the campaign tour represents another step in its grassroots mobilisation strategy and its effort to take its message of economic transformation, agricultural revolution and inclusive governance to communities across Kwara State. The residents who were visibly happy, thanked the gubernatorial candidate, expressing surprise that despite the secu
