AMA to make room for Christmas traders along Cocoa Board–Kantamanto stretch

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) will close selected roads within the Central Business District (CBD) in December to create additional trading spaces for traders ahead of the Christmas festivities. According to the Mayor, the stretch from the Cocoa Board area to Kantamanto will be closed to facilitate the arrangement, following a directive from the Minister of Local Government, Mahama Ayariga.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) will close selected roads within the Central Business District (CBD) in December to create additional trading spaces for traders ahead of the Christmas festivities.

Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey announced the arrangement while addressing traders during the November edition of the National Sanitation Day exercise.

He said the initiative was intended to provide temporary trading spaces for traders without permanent shops, enabling them to take advantage of the festive season to increase their sales.

According to the Mayor, the stretch from the Cocoa Board area to Kantamanto will be closed to facilitate the arrangement, following a directive from the Minister of Local Government, Mahama Ayariga.

Mr Allotey encouraged traders to make good use of the opportunity to maximise their earnings during the Christmas period.

“We want you to make more sales this December than you have ever done. The Local Government Minister has asked us to block some of the roads to create space for traders who do not have shops to sell their goods. The stretch from Cocoa Board to Kantamanto will be closed,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Mayor has directed traders operating at bus stops to vacate the spaces before Monday to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians.

The directive is part of efforts to improve movement and maintain order within the busy commercial district.
