NDA dominates rural local body polls in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts
TDP and allies secure over 70% of ZPTC and MPTC seats; YSRCP makes modest gains in several mandals

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and its alliance partners continued their winning streak in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts in the rural local body elections held on Saturday. The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), which suffered a setback in the urban local body elections, put up a relatively better performance, winning a sizeable number of seats in several mandals. However, the ruling NDA alliance secured more than 70% of the ZPTC and MPTC seats in the two districts.
In Vizianagaram district, the TDP and its alliance partners won a majority of the 27 ZPTC seats. The NDA secured around 300 of the 438 MPTC seats, while the YSRCP won about 80.
The ruling alliance registered emphatic victories in Rajam, Bobbili, Gajapathinagaram and several other Assembly constituencies, winning more than 90% of the seats in some segments.
The TDP had already secured eight MPTC seats in the Rajam Assembly constituency unanimously, dealing a blow to the YSRCP even before polling. Rajam MLA Kondru Murali felicitated the newly elected ZPTC and MPTC members in Rajam on Saturday evening.
Siri Sahasra, daughter of former Zilla Parishad chairperson Majji Srinivasa Rao, won from Terlam mandal, which falls under the Bobbili Assembly constituency. TDP MLA Baby Nayana congratulated her and other newly elected local body representatives at his office in Bobbili Fort.
“The TDP has performed exceptionally well in the Bobbili Assembly constituency in previous elections too, despite the YSRCP winning a majority of seats in 2021. People have reposed their faith in the Chandrababu Naidu government,” Mr. Baby Nayana told the media.
In Srikakulam district too, the TDP and its alliance partners maintained their winning streak in the rural local body elections. The NDA secured a majority of the 30 ZPTC seats and won around 400 of the 523 MPTC seats in the district.
