The police shot at Sameer Mulla, the prime accused in the murder of Yaseen Zuberi, after he allegedly opened fire at a police team with a country-made pistol and attempted to escape arrest in Vijayapura.
Speaking to press persons in Vijayapura on Saturday, Superintendent of Police Lakshman Nimbargi said that four persons had already been arrested in connection with the murder, while efforts were under way to apprehend two other accused.
The police had gone to arrest Mulla when he allegedly opened fire at them with a country-made pistol and attempted to flee. Despite being warned, he continued to resist, prompting the police to shoot him in the right leg and take him into custody, Mr. Nimbargi said.
The injured was admitted to the district hospital for treatment. Investigation had revealed that six persons were involved in the murder, Mr. Nimbargi said, adding that the police had obtained leads about the remaining accused.
The police were also investigating the source of the country-made pistol used in the incident, he said.
