The National Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on President John Dramani Mahama to intervene in the reported abuse involving the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High School (SHS), warning against any attempt to shield the suspect because of his political affiliation. He asked Mr Mahama to consider how he would feel if his daughter, Farida, were subjected to similar abuse by someone entrusted with the responsibility of protecting and guiding young people.
The National Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on President John Dramani Mahama to intervene in the reported abuse involving the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High School (SHS), warning against any attempt to shield the suspect because of his political affiliation.
In a Facebook post shared on Saturday, November 7, the NPP executive appealed to the President to treat the matter with urgency, arguing that the alleged conduct was deeply disturbing and required decisive action to protect the girls involved and ensure justice.
He asked Mr Mahama to consider how he would feel if his daughter, Farida, were subjected to similar abuse by someone entrusted with the responsibility of protecting and guiding young people.
The NPP official insisted that the headmaster’s reported membership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should not serve as a shield against accountability.
He also criticised what he described as the President’s silence on the matter, warning that the handling of alleged criminal conduct involving NDC members risked setting a dangerous governance precedent.
The party executive further questioned the apparent lack of intervention by Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, describing her inaction as troubling, particularly given her position as Ghana’s first female Vice President.
He said the situation sent disturbing signals to advocates of gender equality and affirmative action, who expected women in leadership to speak out against abuse and defend the rights of vulnerable girls.
The NPP Second Vice Chairman also raised concerns about the police handling of the case, questioning why the suspect appeared to be receiving what he described as lenient treatment.
He called on the leadership of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to demonstrate urgency and professionalism and ensure a thorough investigation.
Addressing the CID Director-General directly, he said the public expected her, as a woman and a leader responsible for upholding the law, to take the matter seriously.
“We expect accountability, not excuses. We expect decisive action, not silence,” he stated.
He urged the President and the relevant authorities to ensure that justice was served, stressing that the protection of girls must not be compromised.
“Mr President, Farida deserves protection, and so does every daughter in Ghana,” he added.
