Chief Secretary asks districts to enrol hospitals under PM Rahat scheme

Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju has directed District Collectors to ensure that all eligible network hospitals in the State are enrolled under the Pradhan Mantri Rahat (PM Rahat) scheme to provide timely medical treatment to road accident victims.

Reviewing the implementation of the scheme with District Collectors, Superintendents of Police and transport officials on Friday, he said accident victims could receive treatment worth up to ₹1.5 lakh under the scheme if they were admitted to a nearby hospital during the crucial golden hour immediately after an accident.

Mr. Jaju pointed out that while more than 1,000 hospitals had been empanelled under the State government’s Aarogyasri health scheme, only 469 hospitals had enrolled under PM Rahat. He asked District Collectors to take the necessary steps to bring the remaining eligible hospitals under the scheme to expand access to emergency treatment.

The Chief Secretary said the scheme could provide at least ₹100 crore annually towards medical treatment, thereby helping reduce the financial burden on the Aarogyasri scheme as well.

He, however, emphasised that hospitals providing treatment under PM Rahat would have to comply with the prescribed requirements, including police investigation and other procedural formalities relating to road accidents.
