The kingmakers of Bomfa in the Juaben Traditional Area of the Ashanti Region have enstooled 62-year-old Nana Kwame Agyemang Opambuor as the community’s new chief, ending an eight-year period of chieftaincy disputes and uncertainty.

The new chief, known in private life as Kwame Agyemang, succeeds Nana Opoku Acheampong, who was destooled over issues relating to accountability to the people he served.

Nana Opambuor swore an oath of allegiance to his people in the presence of the Juabenhene, Daasebre Otuo Sereboe II, pledging to uphold the dignity of the Bomfa Stool, the Juaben Traditional Council and the Asante Kingdom.

Addressing the gathering, the Juabenhene cautioned the new chief against arrogance and urged him to govern with humility, integrity and inclusiveness.

“The stool gives you power and honour. You should not do anything contrary to the stool’s bidding. I do not want to see you in an arrogant or proud manner. Work with truth and accuracy, remain calm and rule with dignity, bringing all those who matter in decision-making on board,” Nana Otuo Sereboe II advised.

He also urged the kingmakers and residents to rally behind the new chief to consolidate peace and accelerate development in the community.

Nana Kwame Agyemang Opambuor commended the Juabenhene for helping resolve the chieftaincy disputes, paving the way for the installation of a new traditional leader.

He said the resolution of the protracted dispute would restore hope and provide a unified platform for cultural preservation, local governance, social cohesion and community development.

The new chief pledged to work with his kinsmen and other stakeholders to attract major development projects to Bomfa.

His priorities include the establishment of a police station and a senior high school, upgrading the existing health centre and constructing a modern palace.

To make education more attractive to children, Nana Opambuor also proposed the establishment of an amusement centre equipped with educational materials to combine recreation with learning.

He further urged the youth to embrace responsible behaviour and contribute meaningfully to the development of the community.

He cautioned against drug abuse, thuggery and robbery, warning that such activities could derail the aspirations of young people and undermine their future.
