Mysuru hospital introduces AI-powered heart imaging

MP for Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar launching the next-generation AI-enabled IVUS at the Avant Bkg Hospitals in Mysuru on Friday. T.N. Balakrishna Gowda, Rajagopal J., Madhuprakash S.C. and others were present.

In a move to strengthen advanced cardiac care in Mysuru, Avant Bkg Hospitals has introduced a next-generation artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled high-definition intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) technology and has announced plans to launch minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS) services.

The initiatives aim to improve precision in complex coronary interventions and expand treatment options for patients in Mysuru and neighbouring districts, potentially reducing the need to travel to bigger cities for specialised cardiac care.

The IVUS technology was launched by Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Mysuru-Kodagu MP, at the hospital on Friday in the presence of its Managing Director, T.N. Balakrishna Gowda, Director of Cardiology and Chief Interventional Cardiologist Rajagopal J., and Director of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Madhuprakash S.C.

IVUS enables doctors to obtain detailed images from inside coronary arteries, helping them assess blood vessel dimensions, plaque characteristics, and stent placement and expansion. The technology can assist cardiologists in planning and performing complex angioplasties with greater precision.

In his address, the MP said the expansion of specialised healthcare facilities in Mysuru would improve access to advanced treatment for people across the region and help patients receive complex cardiac care closer to home.

Dr. Gowda said the initiatives would help Mysuru emerge as a centre for advanced medical care by combining modern technology, specialised expertise and comprehensive treatment services.

Dr. Rajagopal said precision was critical in treating complex coronary artery disease and that IVUS provided valuable information to guide stent placement more accurately.

The hospital has also announced plans to introduce MICS, which uses smaller incisions and specialised surgical techniques for selected cardiac procedures.

Dr. Madhuprakash said the planned services would expand the surgical options available to patients, with treatment decisions based on individual clinical needs.
