The Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Ángel Lossada Torres-Quevedo, has visited Ghana’s national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, ahead of the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico.

The ambassador met with all 15 players and members of the technical team at the Mendiata Hotel in Accra, where he offered words of encouragement ahead of the team’s departure for the tournament.

Addressing the players, Lossada Torres-Quevedo expressed his support for Ghana, while emphasising the importance of promoting the rights of persons with disabilities through sport.

“For me, you are allies. If, at the end of the World Cup, I am in the camp of the Spanish side, if there is a final like that, but I will be on your side in this process,” he said.

“At the end of the day, sport is important, but the rights of persons with disabilities are more important. You are already very good, and I wish you all the best.”

President of the Ghana Amputee Football Association, Foster Kwarteng, also expressed gratitude to the ambassador for his continued support for disability sports in the country.

“We want to thank you for always attending to disabled sports. What you’ve done for the National Paralympic Committee and persons with disabilities, I personally cannot thank you enough. You’ve always opened your doors to us, and I thank you for that,” Kwarteng said.

The Black Challenge have been drawn in Group D alongside Colombia, Angola and Iraq for the tournament in Mexico.

Ghana will be aiming to make history by winning the global title, having established themselves as a dominant force in African amputee football with back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations triumphs.
