Five Bengaluru city corporations launch ‘One Ward’ initiative to address civic issues

The Bengaluru city corporations on Sunday formally launched the “Ward One” initiative, which was taken up based on the directions of Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, to address micro-level issues at the ward level.

Mr. Gowda symbolically launched the initiative on Saturday at the Silk Board Junction, which falls under the South City Corporation. On Sunday, all five corporations began work based on the checklists prepared earlier.

The Central City Corporation began the drive near M.G. Road, while the West City Corporation covered Malleswaram and Sadashivanagar. The works taken up included fixing footpaths, repairing streetlights, pruning trees, and dredging drains among others.

However, the corporations have been directed to draw up micro-level plans focusing on major junctions.

These plans should prioritise improving traffic movement as well as pedestrian infrastructure. Since the announcement of the initiative, several citizens have been demanding that the corporations focus on clearing optical fiber cables from footpaths and other public places.

Meanwhile, the five corporations have collectively identified 43 wards where works are to be taken up on priority. Checklists detailing issues specific to each ward have also been prepared. Based on these checklists, civic workers and officials have begun the work.
