Minority institutions respond positively to Congress appeal for Graduate MLC polls

Telangana Government Adviser Md. Ali Shabbir and AICC Secretary Sachin Sawant with representatives of minority institutions seeking support for Graduate MLC polls, in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Representatives of several minority educational institutions in Telangana have responded positively to an appeal by senior Congress leader and Telangana Government Adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir to support Congress candidates in the forthcoming Graduate MLC elections.

At a meeting held at Mr. Shabbir Ali’s residence in Jubilee Hills on Wednesday, attended by AICC Secretary Sachin Sawant, TPCC Senior Vice-President Zafar Javeed and heads of nearly 15 minority institutions, participants discussed ways to mobilise support for Congress candidates Sama Rammohan Reddy in the Mahabubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad Graduates’ Constituency and Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy in the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda constituency.

Representatives from M.J. College, Anwar-ul-Uloom College, Lords Engineering College, Presidency College, Azad College of Engineering, MRM College and M.S. Junior College attended the meeting. Mr. Sama Rammohan Reddy was also present.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Shabbir Ali urged institution managements to encourage their alumni to participate in the elections and support Congress candidates. He highlighted the Congress party’s role in expanding minority education through approvals for professional colleges, fee reimbursement schemes, scholarships and the introduction of 4% reservation for socially and educationally backward Muslims.

Mr. Sawant linked the elections to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s campaign for electoral transparency and protection of democratic institutions. He appealed to educated voters to support Congress candidates and strengthen democratic values.

During the interaction, representatives of minority institutions raised administrative issues affecting their colleges. Mr. Shabbir Ali and Mr. Sawant assured them that their concerns would be taken up with the State Government. Participants appreciated the initiative and indicated their willingness to consider extending support and mobilising alumni voters in favour of Congress candidates in the upcoming Graduate MLC elections.
