Congress pushing Telangana towards ‘Asset bankruptcy’, alleges BJP leader Gudur

Congress government is pushing Telangana towards “asset bankruptcy” by relying on auctions of valuable government lands to meet its immediate revenue requirements, alleged senior BJP leader Gudur Narayana Reddy.
In a statement made at Hyderabad, he warned that continued disposal of public assets could weaken the State’s financial credibility, constrain its future borrowing capacity and affect its ability to finance welfare schemes and infrastructure projects.
Citing CAG-related figures, Mr. Narayana Reddy said Telangana received ₹16,478 crore from land, property, and miscellaneous sources in 2023-24, accounting for about 69% of its non-tax revenue. He said the erstwhile TSIIC had 53,473.76 acres as of March 31, 2022, and had made 2,355 land allotments covering around 4,050 acres between 2014-15 and 2021-22.
He pointed out that the BRS government had auctioned about 31 acres in the Raidurg-Knowledge City corridor for nearly ₹730 crore, while land prices at Kokapet Neopolis had touched ₹100.75 crore per acre in August 2023.
The BJP leader alleged that the Congress government had intensified the process since coming to power. He claimed that since January 2024, the Congress government had auctioned nearly 40 acres in Raidurg-Knowledge City for about ₹7,000 crore, at an average of ₹179 crore per acre. He also cited auction prices of ₹177 crore per acre in October 2025, ₹237 crore in May 2026 and ₹264 crore and ₹269 crore in August 2026.
Similarly, the three-phase HMDA auctions at Kokapet Neopolis in 2025 had fetched around ₹3,708 crore for 27 acres, averaging ₹137 crore per acre, he said.
Referring to HMDA’s proposal to auction another 114 land parcels with an estimated revenue target of ₹2,000 crore, he questioned the rationale behind continuing to depend on land sales for revenue mobilisation.
He also expressed concern about the implications for future industrial development, noting that, as of September 2025, TGIIC reportedly had 5,730 acres available for industrial allotment.
