The Karnataka unit of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Saturday sent knives and cutters to the residence of BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, through online delivery platforms, in protest against his alleged remarks targeting Congress leaders.
Several delivery executives reportedly arrived at Mr. Narayanaswamy’s residence with packages containing knives and cutters, despite the BJP leader not having placed any such orders.
NSUI State president Kirthi Ganesh subsequently released a video statement confirming that the student organisation had deliberately placed the orders as a form of protest.
The protest was reportedly triggered by remarks allegedly made by Mr. Narayanaswamy that Congress leaders should be “cut into pieces and thrown into the Arabian Sea”.
Reacting to the alleged statement, Mr. Ganesh said the NSUI had sent the items in response to the BJP leader's comments. “Mr. Narayanaswamy, you can choose whichever item you want. Try cutting even a single party worker into just one piece and show us,” Mr. Ganesh said in the video.
He also appealed to Congress and NSUI workers across the State to place similar online orders to the BJP leader's residence. Mr. Ganesh claimed that he had circulated Mr. Narayanaswamy’s residential address and phone number online to facilitate the campaign.
Concluding his statement, Mr. Ganesh challenged the BJP leader not to harm even a single Congress worker, warning him against acting on the alleged threat.
