Holiday for schools, colleges in Palakkad on October 26

Examinations scheduled in advance will be held as planned

All educational institutions in Palakkad district, including professional colleges, will remain closed on Monday (October 26) due to continued heavy rain, District Collector K. Sudheer announced here on Sunday.

The holiday applies to anganwadis, madrasas, tuition centres, coaching centres and special classes. Examinations scheduled in advance will be held as planned. Previously scheduled fairs and festivals may proceed with adequate safety measures, the Collector said.

There may be restrictions on tourist travel to the hill regions of Nelliyampathy and Attappady in the wake of the India Meteorological Department sounding a red alert for Palakkad district on Monday.

District administration warned that the weather might cause waterlogging, traffic congestion, poor visibility, flooding in low-lying areas and riverbanks, tree falls, power disruptions and damage to houses and huts. Landslides and soil slips are also possible.

Authorities have advised regulating traffic, avoiding non-essential travel and remaining in safe locations.
