BIE says 3,241 junior colleges granted admission permissions across Telangana

The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE) has rejected allegations of irregularities and corporate favouritism and asserted that student safety and statutory compliance remains its top priority.

In a release on Sunday, it stated that 3,241 junior colleges across the State had received admission permissions for the current academic year, compared with 3,349 affiliated colleges in 2025–26. Applications from 12 colleges seeking approval for shifting premises or completing documentation are under process.

The Board further said 27 colleges had voluntarily applied for NIL admissions after recording zero student enrolments. And institutions without student enrolments, as per applicable regulations, cannot be granted first-year affiliation.

Officials identified that 65 colleges allegedly submitted fake Fire Safety No Objection Certificates (NOCs), it said. It also said financial penalties exceeding ₹4 crore had been imposed on corporate colleges between July and October 2026 for various violations.

Defending inspections and task force operations, the Board described them as routine administrative measures to ensure infrastructure standards and student safety.

A high-level compliance committee has been constituted to assist colleges in meeting requirements, the Board said, and added that it was contemplating publishing institutional compliance shortcomings on its website to bring transparency.
