Nursing student dies after falling from hostel building in Kalaburagi

A 25-year-old nursing student died after reportedly falling from the building of the Babu Jagjivan Ram Hostel on Rajapur Road in Kalaburagi in the early hours of Friday.

The circumstances surrounding his death remain suspicious, and the police have launched an investigation.

The deceased has been identified as Mujahid, who was pursuing a nursing course at a private college in the city. He had reportedly been staying at the hostel, run by the Social Welfare Department, as an unauthorised occupant for the past four to five months.

According to preliminary information, Mujahid had allegedly consumed alcohol with his friends at the hostel on Thursday night. The police are investigating various possibilities, including whether he fell from the building while under the influence of alcohol or whether an altercation following a drinking session led to his death.

The incident comes close on the heels of an alleged brutal assault on a student at the Ambedkar Hostel in the city, raising fresh concerns over student safety in government-run hostels.

City Police Commissioner S.D. Sharanappa, Deputy Commissioner of Police Shalu, and ACP Sharanappa Subedar visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

The incident took place in the limits of the Brahmapur Police Station. Further investigation is under way.
